• Q: What is the Walsh Jesuit High School-SGO? 

  Walsh Jesuit High School-SGO, a Scholarship Granting Organization, is a charitable organization created by Walsh Jesuit High School to allow our donors to receive an Ohio Income Tax Credit for their contributions to support our mission.

• Q: Why did we create a new charitable organization? 

  To qualify as an Ohio SGO, Walsh Jesuit High School formed "Walsh Jesuit High School-SGO" to benefit deserving students and to provide a tax credit to our donors who want to support the mission of Walsh Jesuit High School.

• Q: Why is this important?

  A tax credit is more beneficial to our donors than a tax deduction. It means the donor pays up to $1,500 less in taxes. In addition, many other charitable organizations have created SGOs for the benefit of their donors.

• Q: How will contributions to the Walsh Jesuit High School-SGO be distributed?

  The contributions from donors will be distributed to those with the greatest demonstrated financial need for tuition assistance. Ohio code requires that more than 50% of donations be used to fund scholarships with priority given to students with financial need.

• Q: What is the amount of the tax credit?

  The Ohio Income tax credit is limited to $750.00 per individual or $1,500 for a married couple filing a joint tax return. Contributions must be made to the Walsh Jesuit High School – SGO to qualify for this credit.

• Q: Are corporations eligible for the credit?

  No, corporations are not eligible. The only groups eligible for the tax credits are individuals and passthrough entities.

• Q: Will the Walsh Jesuit High School-SGO contributions be solicited as a part of the Walsh Jesuit HS Annual Fund campaign?

  Contributions to the Walsh Jesuit High School-SGO will be recognized as a gift in the annual financial report/donor honor roll of Walsh Jesuit High School.

• Q: How should a donor determine whether to contribute to Walsh Jesuit High School or Walsh Jesuit High School-SGO?

  Everyone will need to determine what is best for them. It is our hope you will take advantage of this new legislation and support the Walsh Jesuit High School-SGO in addition to your support of the annual fund campaign. Your donation supports students in need at your choice of Walsh Jesuit High School or the greatest need decided by the Walsh Jesuit High School- SGO Board of Members.

• Q: Can I contribute to more than one SGO?

  Yes, but the tax credit per year maximum is $750 if filing individually and $1,500 if filing jointly. Of course, donations do not have a maximum amount, but only up to $750/$1,500 will be eligible for a tax credit.

• Q: Can I direct my donation to a specific student?

  No. As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Walsh Jesuit High School-SGO may not accept donations that are designated for a specific student.

• Q: Can I make a recurring contribution?

  Yes. You may make a one-time contribution or a recurring monthly contribution.

• Q: My employer offers matching contributions. Will the Walsh Jesuit High School-SGO accept a matching contribution from my employer?

  Yes. This is a great way to increase your impact. However, you will not receive a receipt or tax credit for your employer’s matching amount.

• Q: Does a student need to apply for an award through the Walsh Jesuit High School-SGO?

  Yes. Students may apply for a financial assistance award through the Walsh Jesuit High School-SGO by Completing an application through FACTS Grant & Aid. A link to that application is provided on the Walsh Jesuit High School website.

• Q: Who is responsible for submitting the contribution information to the State of Ohio?

  Each donor is personally responsible for maintaining the contribution acknowledgment receipt provided by the WJHS-SGO. That receipt will be needed to claim the tax credit through the State of Ohio.
